Better late then never:
I realize these most of these aren't directly related to NU, but I figured I would post them anyways.
BC Coach Jerry York on his team entering the Beanpot:
On the leaders of his team:
" [We've got] Different personalities within our club, some are born leaders, some are just becoming leaders, but we’ve got great overall leadership I think. Brock Bradford plays that role [of a leader] for us.
On his offense:
" We lost a lot of offensive firepower from last year. We’ve got some young kids that are starting to pick up their game. We're a little more diverse with our scoring this year. "
About playing Northeastern in the first round and what makes them a tough team.
"I think it started last year, I think they had a good club last year and great stretch run there with Vermont in the first round of the playoffs. It went three games and that’s a tough place to play, I think they probably grew up a lot in that series, even though they didn’t advance and I think you’ve seen that carry over this year. They’ve been a legitimate national contender right from the get-go. "
About winning the Beanpot and going on a late season run:
" We always feel that today is the best day and tomorrow we are going to get even better. Really optimistic about a late season run, we’ve got to stay injury free and I think we’ve got the capability. "
On some of his scorers, such as Benn Ferriero and Ben Smith stepping up.
"I think for us to make a run there going to have to really start putting points on the board, which leads to ‘W’s’. They’ve play well, its unbelievable how close they’ve come to having terrific stat, but whether its off the post, or goalie saves, or wide shots sometimes it all comes together soon."
On goalie John Muse:
"Muse has continued to progress. He's been a real backbone for us, very solid in goal for us.
I don’t notice a [slump]. His feel for the game is getting better and his skill level getting better. He looked at his game and thought ‘hey I can improve in a lot of areas’."
BC captain Brock Bradford on playing NU:
"We're looking forward to playing Northeastern. Coach Cronin has prepared them well. It will be a good chance to see where we are as a team."
Harvard coach Ted Donato on his team entering the Beanpot:
"Last year was the first time in quite some time that our team played in the championship and then to take a very good team like Boston College to overtime and then to come back a couple times in that game to a team that eventually won the national championship, I think there are some positives to be taken from that and I really think it gave our guys a little taste of the opportunity that was out there and gave them a taste of what the tournament was about."
" The Beanpot really is a professional experience from the great coverage to the great facility, i t's something that we’re really proud to be apart of. "
“I think our general atmosphere around the locker room and around the team has been very positive through some very tough times, we’ve really stayed together. I think adversity brings two options for a team, one to splinter apart and another to come together and I really feel like we have made the choice to stay together. Last year it led to a nice turnaround and we feel specially we need to get some guys going offensively, be consistent in all years. Much like when a team has success, you can say it's different guys stepping up on different nights. I think unfortunately for us the same could be said for us in a losing streak, in the fact that we found different ways to lose hockey games, whether it was poor execution on the special teams or inadequate team defense or goaltending or the inability to score the puck. I think all those things have at different times reared their ugly heads. But I think right now we’re not focused on the problems, but the solutions that we have for them. Our game against Dartmouth the other night was a step in the right direction."
On playing BU, the #2 team in the nation.
"Obviously BU’s had success in the tournament so it’s a great challenge for us, I think it would be a huge boost for us [to win]. One, because they are so highly ranked and also because of the success they’ve had in the tournament. I think it would be a huge motivator for us we’d like to think that in order to win at the end of the year, we have to have success in these atmospheres in order to test your mettle a little bi.t There’s no tougher way to test your mettle against a great BU team in a tournament they’ve had great success in."
This year the games will not only be broadcast at NESN, but on Rogers Sportsnet in Canada as well, spreading the game to an additional 7.3 million homes. The game is definitely gaining exposure, as this NY Daily News article on former BU and current Ranger Chris Drury attests to. Drury, along with former NU defenseman Dan McGillis, was inducted into the Beanpot Hall of Fame this year.
