Huskies at the top

Seriously, this has to big the biggest CAA win ever for Northeastern. I wasn't here during the America East days, but I can't imagine too many bigger conference wins then the game tonight. With a 68-63 win over VCU, NU is now 9-1 (14-6 overall) and sits all alone in first place. The Huskies got off to a great start but the Rams closed to 34-30 at half. Eric Maynor drained 30 points for the Rams, but VCU (and the Huskies for that matter) ran into foul trouble. After struggling with free throws in the Hofstra game, NU sank them down the stretch to ice the game, including a pair by Nkem Ojougboh to push the lead to 68-63. The Huskies have a stud in Matt Janning and have enjoyed a great season by Manny Adako so far, but they don't win this game and aren't 9-1 in the CAA without guys like Matt Smith, Baptise Bataille and Chris Alvarez. Smith has been lighting it up from three-point range, while Bataille has hit some clutch foul shots and been an all-around solid contributer. And Alvarez grabbed an absolutely HUGE offensive board tonight. Great win tonight. This team doesn't seem to be too flashy, but they find a way.
