At one point last season, Matz was missing six starters to injury and was down to only one sub on the bench.
"I didn't think things could get worse," Matz told the then Northeastern News in October. "I thought these conversations [about injuries] were over. It's just simply amazing."
Among those injured included seniors Emilee Ellison and Jenna Lucchesi, both who made the CAA All-Tournament team this season. Lucchesi was named tournament MVP after making a remarkable comeback from a severe compound leg fracture. -The awards keep piling up for rookie sensation Veronica Napoli. In addition to being named CAA Rookie of the Year last week, she was honored with a berth on topdrawersoccer.com All-Rookie Second team.
-Harvard won the Ivy League title and is led offensively by Melanie Baskind, Katherine Sheeleigh, and Christina Hagner, who each had six goals apiece. In net, Laura Dale and Lauren Mann combined for most of the playing time, as the Crimson only allowed 0.88 goals a game. Complete notes and stats for Harvard are here.
