Post Game Quotes

Better late then never....

NU head coach Ed Matz
"First of all, hats off to the fans, [it was an] incredible atmosphere. This is the most fans and best atmosphere I’ve seen at a women’s or men’s game in ten years. Incredible job by the fans."

On the game itself:
" [It was ] two very, very even teams, back and back forth. We made a mistake, they scored, they made a mistake we scored. It was incredible even. Then it goes into PK’s and PK’s are just a lot of pressure on a young team, [or an] old team. "

"Brenna Matthews got a second try on hers for an infraction on the goalkeeper. Brenna had to stand out there for about a minute and half all by herself while it was explained. Just a great job, great job [tonight]. We just find a way, we find a way, we have a lot of confidence and we found a way tonight."

On playing BC on Sunday
" I told the players, we’ve played Harvard before, we’ve always lost, we've played BC before, and always lost. But we’ve never played them as the CAA Champs. We just need to play them like the CAA champs, it’s different now."

Senior co-captain and defender Brenna Matthews

On her PK
" [It was] probably the longest minute of my life, I was like just give me the ball back. Because I was pretty sure he was going to call it [the penalty] because [Harvard's goalie] moved really early. So I was pretty sure I was going to have to take it again. I don’t know if I’m going to switch sides [shooting the ball]. It was really mental and probably mental for the goalie, she was probably freaking out. I tried to keep my cool and just really happy that I was able to finish my second one."

On the back and forth game:

"What’s so different about our team this year is that no matter what, we are never out of the game. We always keep on pushing, always find a way to score, whether it be a free kick or somebody just finishing the ball. Everybody pushed, everybody worked their butt off[[tonight], that's why we are were we are right now. We just never give up in a game. There can be two minutes left in the game and we’re down one goal, and we’re still not out of it. That’s why this team is so special and why we're doing so well.

On the crowd:

" [It was] awesome how many people came out and supported us. What I loved about our fans was that they were being so respectful and they were just being positive and cheering for us while Harvard fans were being very negative and taunting. Our fans were so classy and so awesome and it was great for everybody to take the time out on their Friday night to come and see us down here. We really appreciate that. It's the best and most fans I’ve ever had at any soccer game.

On the injury front, Matz said Lucchesi, who returned for the PK's, had a sprained ankle on the same leg she hurt last year. She is going to be examined Saturday, but it sounded like she would play Sunday. The news on Rebello was less positive. Matz said she is "doubtful" for the BC game with a fractured rib and will get x-rays Saturday.
